Frog Engine Controls offers a line of products to help the enthusiast with their engine
replacement. We manufacture adapter harnesses to facilitate the installation of otherwise
incompatible ECUs into your vehicle.

For example; if you were to purchase an "engine swap" from one of the many engine importers,
say from a 1998 JDM Integra Type R, and installed it into your 1992 Civic VX. You would soon
discover that the ECU that comes with the swap does not plug into your chassis harness. The
plugs are completely different. You are left with a couple of options. The first would be to
purchase an OBD1 ECU reprogrammed with an after market DOHC Vtec program. Although some
of these programs can be quite good, more often than not they lead to greatly reduced fuel
economy and large trade offs in driveability for the sake of full throttle power. The second option
is to use a Frog Engine Controls OBD1 to OBD2a adapter, and plug in your 98 ITR ECU for factory
economy and driveability as well as all the performance that Honda intended from this great
engine.

Another popular application for our products is the OBD2 (either version) to OBD1 adapter. Many
enthusiast soon discover that the OBD2 systems are quite hard to work with when it comes to after
market modifications. A performance camshaft often results in a check engine light for the crank
fluctuation sensor, or a header/exhaust system eliminates the extra mount for the 2nd O2
sensor. The use of an OBD1 ECU in your OBD2 car would eliminate all these "problems", as the
OBD1 ECU is not configured to read these sensors. However, the plugs on the OBD1 ECU are not
compatible with your OBD2 engine/chassis harness. The Frog Engine Controls OBD2 to OBD1
adapter takes care of this for you. Another good reason for the OBD2 to OBD1 adapter is to allow
the use of the OBD1 compatible Hondata engine management system in your OBD2 car. Hondata
has taken the Honda ECU to new limits with the ability to modify the fueling and timing maps
contained within the Honda/Acura ECUs as well as many other key parameters for top level high
performance engine tuning.
